10 Reasons Why No One Comments On Your Blog

Sharing is caring!

Are you frustrated by the lack of comments on your blog? Wondering if anyone out there is even listening?

If no one comments on your blog posts, you can change that by simply making a few adjustments to your blog and your social media habits!

10 Reasons Why No One Comments On Your Blog (And what you can do to fix it!)

Ten Reasons Why No One Comments on your Blog…and how you can change that TODAY!

Do you pay attention to SEO? You want to be found in organic search results. Obviously the higher you show up in search results, the more visitors you’re going to get. In other words, if you show up on page 10 (or page 30), you’re not really going to get too many visitors from organic search. Jennifer Grayeb wrote a great post on Blog SEO: How to Use Keywords that I think you’ll find helpful, if you find SEO confusing.

Is Your Content Interesting? Over the summer, I was visiting friends out of state and the topic of my blog came up. Of the two friends, one reads it and the other does not. The one that doesn’t wondered aloud why people read blogs…she wasn’t sure why anyone would want to read about someone else’s everyday life.  I think this is a common misconception…that all bloggers are simply writing about their own lives. The other friend piped in that I write about all sorts of interesting things on my blog! But you might actually be surprised to find out what is most interesting to your readers. Check out your Google Analytics and your Facebook Insights to see what is engaging your fans. I recently wrote a post on how to keep your audience engaged with your Facebook Insights that you may find helpful. The bottom line is you want to be creating interesting and entertaining content that is shareable!

Do your writing skills need work? I think most of us could probably improve our writing skills. But typos and poor grammar are a big turn off for a lot of people, myself included. You also want to make sure your writing is easy to understand. If you jump all over the place, it’s hard for people to follow. I usually read my posts out loud to myself BEFORE I post them. I catch a lot of things this way…spelling errors, words that I have written twice (ie, two the’s), run-on sentences, etc.

Is your blog appealing to the eye? If I click on a blog and find that it’s busy looking, I usually click right off. It’s overwhelming to look at a blog that has too much going on. Another no-no…using a hard-to-read font. There have been blog posts that I wanted to read, but I just couldn’t because it was too much eye strain.

Do you greet your visitors with music? One word – don’t! This is a huge pet peeve for me. If I hear music when I open your blog, I’m out of there right away. I didn’t come to your page to listen to music…I came to check out a post. I don’t want to have to spend time trying to figure out how to turn off the music!

Do you make people register to comment? Don’t do this. If I’m on your blog for the first time, I have no idea if I’m going to want to come back. If you make me register just to comment, I’m not going to stick around.

Do you use captcha? I really can’t stand captcha. It’s hard to read and sometimes next to impossible to get right. I’ll comment on a blog with captcha once (and sometimes if I really like you, I’ll go back), but for the most part, don’t count on seeing me at your place. There are so many other alternatives to avoid spam that you could be using. Just google alternatives to captcha!

Do you comment on other people’s blogs? This is a big one. If you’re sitting out there waiting to be discovered, don’t. If you want to make friends in the blog world, you need to put yourself out there. Visit other people’s blogs. Comment. Tell people how you found them. And if you really want to get into the nitty gritty about how you get blog comments, check out my post on How to Go From Zero to 50 Comments on Your Blog Posts.

Do you respond when people comment on your blog? No one likes to feel ignored. But this is exactly how people feel when they leave you a heartfelt, well thought out comment on your blog post, and get no response but dead air.

Do you share content from other blogs? To those blog friends who comment and share my content, I am so thankful to you for sharing me with your audience! I do the same. Anytime I read something I think my fan base will find interesting, I share it, whether you’re one of my blog regulars or not. You might find me sharing my “regular” readers content more often, but that’s because I’m on their blogs a lot too. But I absolutely don’t limit myself. I’m a big believer in “what comes around, goes around.”

Great list of points! Thank you for sharing! I too, cannot stand being greeted by music, especially when I have to hunt for ten minutes to try and figure out how to turn it off without muting my entire computer.

Great list!

Thank you for the great information. I have recently started a new blog and I am always looking for ways to increase my readers participation.

Honestly, one thing that keeps me from commenting is not being able to find the comment box. I have been to blogs where you have to "click here" and "enter info here" then you can comment and it is too much work! I also don't like when I leave a comment and it wants to take over my social media status. I don't want to post to facebook and twitter every time I comment on a blog. I also love when blogs have the commentluv plug-in installed!! Thanks!

I've fixed and done all of this. I even ask questions at the end of a personal post (sometimes the not-so-personal ones) and it doesn't work. :( I still very rarely get comments after more than a year of blogging.
