#AskAwayFriday with Ophelia at LatinaMamaRama

If you’re not familiar with #AskAwayFriday, it’s a opportunity for bloggers to connect and learn more about each other. You get to ask your partner his or her deepest darkest secrets and they have to answer. Just kidding! It really is just a fun way to make new friends and get to know them better!

Ophelia from LatinaMamaRama

I got to meet my partner for this week’s #AskAwayFriday at the Bloggy Boot Camp in Dallas this past weekend. I’ve been following Ophelia for a while. We have a lot in common. She likes to cook Mexican food…my favorite kind of food!  She’s got some recipes I really want to try, like this one on how to make Chile Rellenos!  She lives the same type of sports mom life that I do. Our kids play different sports but it doesn’t matter…it’s the same crazy schedule. And she is so nice and genuine as well! I hope you’ll go visit her over at LatinaMamaRama and see how she answered my questions!

Here are the questions she sent me!

If you had to evacuate your house immediately, what is the one thing you would grab on the way out?

After my husband, kids, and animals were out, I would grab my pictures. Those are our stories, and some of them just can’t be replaced. I would be devastated if I lost my old photos.  Most of the newer ones are backed up to Dropbox or SmugMug.

What is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate it?

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite because of the food. I love turkey and all the other fixings that go with it…and all the yummy leftovers! I also like the family time. For years, we had a great ritual going. Thanksgiving dinner with my in laws, then up to the mountains to ski. But my daughter’s sports schedule has thrown a monkey wrench into things with tournaments over the holiday. I have a feeling Ophelia can relate to this.

What is something you learned in school that you think is useless today?

Hmmm…not sure. For the most part, I think everything you learn can be applied back to something else. Math was my least favorite subject though. I was terrible at it.

If you could travel into space would you go?

I don’t think so. I can be adventurous but only to a point. I think traveling into space might be beyond that point.

I had the pleasure of meeting you in Dallas at Bloggy Boot Camp. Have you had the opportunity to meet other bloggers?

I’ve certainly met plenty of my blog friends at blogging events, but I’ve also had the opportunity to meet a few outside of those events as well. I went to a photo organizing conference in Chicago and convinced AnnMarie from Tidbits From the Queen of Chaos to meet me there. She was one of my first blogging friends. Then over the summer I got the chance to meet Tamara from Tamara (Like) Camera and Ilene from The Fierce Diva Guide to Life. We had a lunch and the kids had a pool play date. They were as wonderful in real life as they are on their blogs.

All of your kids are involved with competitive sports. Have you ever dealt with a difficult coach? How did you handle that situation?

We’ve been pretty lucky overall, but our kids have had a couple of difficult coaches. In one incidence, our child quit the sport for several years because the coach was very involved at that particular age group, and there was no way around it. In the other case, our child left the team at the end of the season and tried out for another one. It worked out fine. We didn’t really “handle” anything…the kids just opted to move on.

What has been your best “proud mama” moment?

Oh goodness, I don’t know. There’s been so many times I’ve been proud of my kids. One that stands out recently was when my husband forgot to sign our daughter up for a camp that is really important to her and when he remembered, it was too late. We were surprised at the way she handled it. In the end it all worked out, but it came down to the wire. If you’d like, you can read about it here: Life’s Disappointments and How Kids Can Surprise You.

What is your favorite outside activity?

I enjoy running, but I also like going for walks and hikes with the dogs. We have three dogs that love their runs so if you put your running shoes on, they are doing dances around you!

If you had to spend a day without using technology, what would you do?

I’d probably go for a run with a friend, maybe curl up with a cat and read for a little bit, and then cook a really delicious gourmet dinner. I love to cook. If the kids were home, I’d probably try to convince them to play a board game, which they might actually do once they realized there was no technology available. I love Scrabble and backgammon.

What has been your favorite recipe that you have posted on your blog?

Probably the recipe I am most known for is my Salsamole recipe. My kids love it, and people are always asking me to bring it to parties.

If you want to check out some of the other bloggers participating (and of course Ophelia’s answers to my questions!), head over to LatinaMamaRama as she is one of the link party hosts!

Hi Michelle! I loved reading your answers to Ophilia's #AskAwayFriday questions. I would NOT go to space either. Even if someone paid me...umm...Have you seen Gravity? LOL

I haven't seen it, but so many people are asking...I guess I need to. I rarely actually get out to the movie theater. I remember when the space shuttle blew up...that might be part of it. I was in high school then. We had the tv on in the classroom and everyone just sat there in shock. It was a horrible moment...one that I will never forget.

It's so great to learn new things about everyone each week! Ophelia told me about the conference and i can't wait to attend my first. I absolutely LOVE Thanksgiving as well and trust me it's mostly about the food, and being thankful...for the food! Just kiddin' I also love that it's the time my family and I can get together and simply BE. Thanks for giving us another peek at who you are this week...

Definitely about the food and the family time for me! I always manage to relax more over Thanksgiving than any other holiday!

I'd totally go for photos as well. The older ones don't have digital backups! Oh and you're free to have my Thanksgiving leftovers. I'm not a fan of turkey, pie or any of the fixings!

Oh I love turkey! I'm not a big pie person either though. I'll take your leftovers!
