Tangy Sesame Chicken Wings

Is there anything better than game day food?!

I just love all the appetizers that come out for a party spread. Who needs dinner when you have all these great game day snacks!

Chicken wings are up there with my all time favorites.  I usually only make them when I am going to parties, but this sesame chicken wing recipe that I am sharing with you is my go-to recipe. Everyone always raves about them, and they go fast.

My recipe is adapted from the cookbook Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. If you’re interested in learning more about nutrition and are trying to move away from processed food, this is a great resource! I discovered it a number of years ago, when my youngest son was very little. He was having seizure-like episodes where he would stop breathing and turn blue. If you’ve read the book The Mother of All Meltdowns, then you’ve heard the whole story (along with my mom meltdown), but the bottom line was he was allergic to wheat, and when we took wheat out of his diet, the episodes stopped. We had to change our whole way of eating for a couple of years, and it was during that time frame that I learned of this cookbook.

This is a really easy recipe. Whisk together your gluten free soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, lemon zest and juice, garlic, ginger, and all the seasonings.  I am partial to San J Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce. We started using this soy sauce when we discovered my son’s allergy issues, and almost fourteen years later, I still buy it, even though we no longer have to worry about eating gluten free. It has such a great flavor!

Place the wings in your marinade for a good portion of the day, or overnight. I marinate my wings in a plastic ziploc bag and flip them several times. Before you put them in the oven, pat them dry (this is an important step…they won’t come out as well if you don’t do this), brush them with melted butter and sprinkle sesame seeds on them.

Now they’re ready for the oven. Cook your chicken wings for about an hour and fifteen minutes at 350 degrees. Keep an eye on them though. Mine were done before the time was up…I could have taken them out a little earlier.  Don’t they look good though?!
