I’ve mentioned Bookboard to you several times in the past, and you might have noticed them on my blog sidebar as well. If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I am a strong advocate for this program. If you haven’t heard of them before, Bookboard is a digital reading service for kids…or perhaps it would be better described as a virtual library!  While Bookboard is not meant to replace the physical book, it’s not always feasible to own every book your child wants to read, nor is it always possible to get to the library. Bookboard gives your child the ability to have unlimited books right at his or her fingertips! If you’re traveling or if your child has time where they are occupying themselves while you are busy, Bookboard is a great way to keep them entertained while teaching reading and comprehension skills. I’d much rather my kids be reading than playing video games!

Our kids need every advantage they can get when it comes to reading. If you have young children, you know that kids today are expected to have reading skills at younger and younger ages. In my post on giving your child a Headstart on Reading, I mentioned what the current expectations are for kids entering and exiting kindergarten. The Bookboard reading service gives your children the option of reading or being read to even when you’re not available to work with them. You might wonder, will my kids really read on their own? The answer is yes! My nephew loves the program. He sat for an hour at my house the last time they were here visiting, having Bookboard read to him! My own kids are now beyond the reading levels available on Bookboard (it goes up to age 12 and includes chapter books) but I have many nieces and nephews in the right age bracket.

With over 4oo books to choose from at different levels, there is certainly something for everyone! Here are a few collections your children might enjoy!

If your family likes dogs as much as mine does, you might like the Never Dog Tired collection!

Friends and lessons on friendship are always great books for kids as well!

I’m very excited to be offering you the chance to win a one year’s subscription to Bookboard just in time for the holidays ($59.88 value!). There is a free version as well, but the subscription service offers:

  • unlimited reading and over 400 unlockable books
  • audio books that read to your child
  • offline storage so your child can read anywhere (helpful for travel!)
  • goals and achievements to encourage reading
  • report of your child’s reading progress
  • up to 4 reading accounts, so each child can have his/her own account
  • parent’s portal

To enter, all you have to do is sign up for the free trial at Bookboard and read one book before midnight PST on December 5th.  That’s it! One person will be chosen from each participating blog to win a year’s subscription to Bookboard on December 6th. If you don’t win, but are looking for a great family gift or a gift for a special reader, you might consider a Bookboard gift card. Originally only available on the iPad, it’s now available on your desktop or laptop (Mac or PC) using the Google Chrome browser! Good luck!

This is so cool! I love children's books--collected hundreds when my own were young. Now I have a grandchild who would certainly benefit from this!

What a great program. I wish there was something like this when my son was younger.

This looks like a great program. I am glad to say my kids are too old but I'm sharing with friends who have younger ones!

I think this is a fantastic idea. I used to read so much when I was little I was always finishing before we could get back to the library. Reading is so important for kids.

This would have been awesome when I was little! I was always running out of books too!
