Feeling Appreciated | The Liebster Award

liebster2I had a nice surprise in my email the other day. A new friend, Carrie Whittemore from Whitt’s Kits Fabrics & Crafts, nominated me for a Liebster award. Carrie has a lot of great craft projects on her blog…definitely check it out!

What is a Liebster Award? It’s an award given by bloggers to other bloggers to show appreciation. I’m relatively new to blogging…I started my blog last summer. I’d heard about the Liebster Award, but honestly, I didn’t know much about it. I asked Carrie how it worked, and I also googled to find out more, and interestingly enough, it appears that over time the Liebster criteria has evolved, with changes to the number of people you can have following you and also the number you nominate. No matter, I will follow the rules I was given. I may have more followers than I am supposed to have, depending on how you look at it. But I am still a new blogger, and I only have 57 email subscribers. So I am going to take that to mean I can participate.

Here are the rules:

  1. You must tell 11 things about yourself.
  2. You must answer the 11 things that were asked of you.
  3. Nominate 11 other blogs to share.
  4. Share your post with the person that nominated you, as well as the people you are nominating.

11 Things About Me

I love social media, especially twitter. I could play on twitter all day. I don’t though. I just looks like I do. Thank goodness for Hootsuite. But I do visit several times daily…well, maybe more than several.

I am a huge fan of sports movies. Miracle, Remember the Titans, Coach Carter, The Blind Side, A League of Their Own, and Rudy are among my favorites. I’ve seen all of these multiple times and never get tired of them. I just saw 42. Phenomenal! Go see it!

I don’t watch tv. Most people think I am nuts. I stopped watching it about 15 years ago. I’ll see shows if they are on when I am in the room, but I will never turn a show on and actually watch it myself. I actually don’t know how to turn the tv on…too many remotes. I could learn if I wanted though. I just don’t want to.

My favorite color is green. Pretty much any shade.

I ran cross country and track in college. That’s where I met my husband. He was on the team as well and was a couple years ahead of me. He was also a lifeguard at the pool and we had to run in the water once a week. I hated doing this, because the pool was so cold. He walked back and forth and talked to me while I was getting my workout in and that is how I got to know him.

I cannot bake. I forget eggs or sugar or some other crucial ingredient. I am not good at following recipes exactly. All baking in this house is done by either my daughter or husband. I do like to cook though.

We have 7 pets. 3 dogs, 4 cats. If you read my blog posts, you probably already know this. People think we are crazy. Maybe we are. But I love my furry family. I talk to them all the time too.

I’m a night owl. If you see me online at 1 am, that’s why.

The recipes I am most known for by family and friends are my Pecan Crusted Chicken with Honey Mustard Dressing and Salad Greens and my Salsamole. The first one my daughter took to lunch every day for months at the beginning of last school year. I guess that gives it the kid seal of approval. The second one is guacamole with a twist. That’s what I usually bring to parties.

I’m a bit of a book hoarder. I love to read. My favorite authors are Jodi Picoult, Chris Bohjalian, and Jeannette Walls.

I can be completely oblivious at times. I once drove home from work with a flat tire and never even noticed. A co-worker followed me out of the parking lot honking at me because of it, and I never noticed him either.

My Answer's to Carrie's Questions

  • Do you have a hobby?  What is it?  Photography. I love taking pictures, especially of sports. I guess that’s a good thing since I spend pretty much every waking moment on the weekends on a soccer field with one of my three kids.
  • What is your favorite food?  That’s a tough one. I love to eat! Mexican, Indian, Arabic, Italian, fresh seafood by the beach, loaded omelets…. I am a food snob though…love truly good food!
  • What are you currently reading? Right now I am reading Don’t Go, by Lisa Scottoline, and I just finished Reconstructing Amelia: A Novel, by Kimberly McCreight, which was very good.
  • When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? That one’s easy. A newspaper journalist. I ended up going to Business School instead.
  • Where do you live now?  What do you like about it? I live in Connecticut. My favorite thing about living in the Northeast is the changing seasons, and especially the fall colors. I like snow, but would prefer that it come Thursday night, so a snow day gives us a 3 day weekend to go skiing. I also love that we have a gorgeous Town Green which is walking distance from my house.
  • How has technology changed your life? Well for one, I absolutely love blogging and how it connects you to people that you’d never ever meet otherwise. And all those pages in magazines that I used to tear out and file and never look at again…I now have everything at my fingertips with Pinterest…easily accessible when I need it!
  • If you could have three wishes, what would they be? That my kids would stop fighting with each other, that my kids would stop fighting with each other, that my kids would stop fighting with each other. Oh, did I say that more than once? Stupid arguing drives me nuts. Ok, let’s try that again. 1) That my kids are happy and live full lives; 2) That I could get my house organized and keep it that way; 3) That I learn how to relax more.
  • If your friends had to describe you in three words, what would they be? I don’t know….loyal, trustworthy, hard working.
  • If you could go on vacation anywhere, where would it be?  What would you like to do there? My dream vacation would be to go to Giraffe Manor in Kenya. How cool would it be to have breakfast with a giraffe? Seriously this place looks amazing! My camera and I would be so happy! I have been looking at it every now and then for years. Maybe after the kids are done with college? Other than that, I love beach vacations.
  •  Describe the view from your window. I’m sitting in the dining room right now and I have a view of the pool area. I can’t wait for summer.

Who I am Nominating

There are a lot of blogs that I like, but I think many of them might be considered too big. I’m going to have to do a separate post sometime to share more of my favorites. Some of you on this list might have too many followers too (but I did my best here, and I think it’s all in interpretation anyway). And this is all in the spirit of fun and celebrating each other’s blogs! So I hope you will participate! I hope my readers will take the time to visit these great blogs as well!

Here are YOUR questions:

  1. Who is your favorite author and why?
  2. What is your best recipe? Share it…I am shameless and need some new recipe inspiration!
  3. If you could have a day all to yourself, what would you do with it?
  4. Describe a less than stellar moment, parenting or otherwise.
  5. If you could do one thing differently in your life, what would it be?
  6. What is your least favorite household chore?
  7. What is one thing you wish you knew how to do?
  8. What was your favorite vacation ever?
  9. Dogs or cats? Or neither?
  10. What’s your favorite workout?
  11. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Sharing is caring!

Congrats for the nominalization! What a great joy to find persons like you who enjoy books and don’t care that much for the TV. Keep up the good work, you’re doing great. I really liked your blog. Who knows, with your talent you could be a newspaper journalist one day.
