WeMontage Photo Wallpaper: Dorm Decor

Over the last six months or so, my son and I have been looking at colleges. He’s a senior this year and needs to start making some decisions soon on where he wants to apply.

College is a time for new beginnings…it’s a transition to independence. I can already tell it’s going to be a big adjustment for me. He’s my first to be heading off to college, and things will be different around here without him home.

But the transition to college, as exciting as it is, isn’t always easy for our kids either. For many of them, it’s their first experience being away from home for a long period of time. They have to adapt to a new environment, a new schedule, unfamiliar people, and quite possibly their first taste of real independence. According to Academia.edu, up to 95% of first year students experience some degree of homesickness. No big surprise there!

Creating a feeling of home within a dorm room can help. Dorm decor can be a challenge though. Students can’t tack pictures or hang frames from the wall. Who wants to look at bare walls?!

WeMontage is a great new way for students to take their “selfies” and good times with friends are create a large, custom photo collage on removable photo wallpaper.

WeMontage has a 3′ x 2′ size that is perfect for the limited wall space in dorm rooms. It’s easy to install, and easy to move if they decide to redecorate. At the end of the year, they can simply take their WeMontage down, put it back on the backing it came with (they should definitely save that…it will come in handy if they decide to redecorate too), and then they can store it until they are ready to put it up in their next dorm room or apartment.

For a 3′ x 2′ WeMontage, they’ll want at least 5-10 photos. Considering the number of “selfies” and photos of friends my own kids take, they should have more than enough! There’s lots of options to customize…portrait vs landscape, margin size, background colors, and they even have the option of a custom size if they want. They can move their pictures around in the collage until they have a combination that they like. And they can even save different versions while they’re playing with the software and go back to them later to make their final decision.

Even The TODAY Show agrees this is a great option for dorm decor for college kids:

If you’d like to check it out, head over to WeMontage and upload some photos and play with their software. It’s really easy to use. I myself have made 5 of them so far, including the two in the graphic above…one was for my son’s room, and the other was a graduation gift for one of my son’s friends. Here’s one very happy college bound student!

I've never wanted to go to college so much in my life! I remember having to tape every single picture onto my walk. This is awesome.

You know what else is awesome? That matching lampshade in your son's room. :-)

Oh I wish my son's room looked like that!! I borrowed that picture from WeMontage...although it is a photo wallpaper panel that I created....they borrowed that from me! Here's what his room actually looks like: https://www.adishofdailylife.com/2013/10/decorating-your-kids-rooms-with-wemontage-photo-wallpaper/

Hi Michelle, This is such a unique idea - and perfect for new freshman. Can definitely curb the homesickness and is also a great conversation starter when meeting new kids in the dorms.

This is so brilliant to use in college dorm rooms. I would use it in my kids rooms or in my office space. Also would work in our gym area for John's race photos.

My oldest son has one in his room, and my youngest wants one. It would be really cool for race photos too!
