Mom, We’re at the Wrong Field!

I hate to continue my funny story sagas, but I feel like it’s never ending in my life!

Today I took my son to the wrong field for his game. Of course I was a little late to begin with, which did not help matters. Not only was it the wrong field, but it was completely on the other side of town, so I literally dropped him off five minutes before the game started. My original plan had been to drop my younger son off at the field, take my oldest son to his friend’s house (which was over by where I thought the game was), and get my grocery shopping done. I was even prepared with a cooler bag for the cold stuff, as I would be going straight from the grocery store to the game.

What actually happened was…I drove to the field, found no one there, called my husband to get the right field (this was his fault by the way, as he told me which field to go to in the first place), and then backtracked back to the correct field. Then I had to drive my oldest son back to where we originally were, making me miss most of the first half of the game and getting no grocery shopping done in the process. Basically I wasted close to an hour driving back and forth and then I had to do my grocery shopping at the bigger store after the game, which means it took me longer to get through the store. All in all I probably wasted at least 1.5 hours today that I can ill afford to waste right now.

Does this stuff only happen to me? At least all the other funny stories I just wrote about weren’t very recent, in case you are thinking we are a completely unorganized mess over here. As you might have read in my post about being challenged by our sports schedule, my husband usually keeps the schedule together for us. Honestly, it is not completely his fault that I went to the wrong field…I do get the emails too. I just didn’t check it this morning. Guess I should start doing that!

As a coach, I sometimes don't even know (OK, hardly ever know) the field number until I roll up to the park. I know how hard it is to get kids to the field on time, with both shin guards, both cleats, the right jersey, a ball, a water bottle, an optional pair of underpants.

This is precisely why my starting lineup is composed entirely of the first six players who turn up at game time, and the captains are the first two kids among those!

Sounds like a perfect way to handle it to me!

Oh, gosh, this stuff happens to me all the time. Crazy! Crazy! I've taken my sons to all types of church and band events that were totally wrong. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard. But it is.

All in all, I think only 1 1/2 hours isn't too bad. :)

Many times we realize the day of that we don't have the proper attire for the band concert! Why can't they just say dress nice rather than specifying black pants, which my kid will never wear again? I am seriously challenged by these things. No, 1.5 hours isn't that bad...it's just that I had it all planned out and I was going to be efficient!

Stopping by from SITS. I can totally relate...I'm notoriously a hot mess when it comes to getting to places.

Me too -- I don't know why!! I'm just not a planner. I fly by the seat of my pants, not always a good thing with a crazy schedule!

{Melinda} Your stories always make me feel better. These things happen to me all the time. I'm glad to know that they happen to other capable, intelligent women, too! :)

I'm glad this stuff happens to other people too. Sometimes I wonder if it's just me!! It's always something, isn't it?!

I have not done this yet, but I have plenty of time ahead of me since my youngest is still in preschool. So far, I've been able to keep up with my older son's schedule. For the most part. Sounds like quite the adventure! :)

Oh, it's always an adventure around here! 3 kids with busy schedules is hard to keep track of. When the first one is off to college in a couple years, I won't know what to do with myself!
