Orange Pomegranate Gin Cocktail

Before I share my gin cocktail with you all, I just want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to the people of France. I am so very sad. When terrible tragedies like this happen, it puts the little things in life in perspective. I don’t even have the words to convey what I am feeling…and I know it is much worse for those that are there. But my heart aches for the French people.

I recently had the opportunity to preview Paris Cocktails by Doni Belau, a book of over 100 cocktail recipes that is quickly becoming a go-to book for our get togethers with friends. If you are planning to host this holiday season, this book is a must-have! Not only will you find a vast and wonderful selection of drink recipes, it also includes serving (and even menu) suggestions to go along with your selection, taking the guesswork out of planning the perfect party!

When I started working with the Citadelle Gin I was sent, I will admit feeling a little nervous about creating a holiday cocktail with a liquor that I have never considered a favorite. I’ve always been more of a vodka girl. After taste testing several variations, and deciding on a very special winter cocktail to share with you here today, I can honestly say I am a gin convert. Don’t be surprised if you see more gin cocktails on the blog here!

For those of you who are gin newbies, gin draws its predominant flavor from juniper berries. In addition to juniper berries, Citadelle Gin also includes 18 other botanicals, which are individually cold-infused (much like the process of cold pressing olives for oil). The process by which Citadelle Gin is made is quite fascinating. Unlike other gin distilleries, they small batch distill over an open flame (otherwise known as naked flame distillation), which gives Citadelle a unique texture and mouthfeel.

Notes

Cocktail tips:
If you're using ice cubes from your freezer, rinse them first to get rid of any possible aftertaste from your freezer.
If you want to shine your glasses up a little for your holiday party, rub a little seltzer on them with a clean cloth. It'll make them sparkle!

Congrats on your win, Michelle. This cocktail and your photos are fabulous! A lot of my holiday guests are gin drinkers so I'm going to try this on them. Love introducing new drinks!

I so need to pick up a copy of Paris Cocktails by Doni Belau for my sister - she is always experimenting with cocktails and mocktails and I know she would love it - and this gorgeous cocktail as well! Happy Friday Michelle!
