What Are Thumbprint Cookies?
Thumbprint cookies are a classic treat characterized by their signature indentation, usually made with a thumb, that holds a sweet filling.
These cookies are soft, buttery, and often filled with jam, fruit preserves, or chocolate.
What Ingredients Are in Peach Thumbprint Cookies?
- Butter: Provides the rich, creamy base for the cookie dough.
- Vanilla Extract: Enhances the flavor with a sweet, aromatic note.
- All-Purpose Flour: The main structure of the peach pie filling cookies.
- Powdered Sugar: Adds sweetness and a tender texture.
- Peach Pie Filling: The star of the cookie, adding a fruity, sweet center.
- White Chocolate Chips: For a decorative and tasty drizzle that makes the peach cookie recipe so beautiful.
Pro Tip: Use homemade vanilla extract for the best flavor; I prefer the double fold vanilla extract in this recipe.
How to Make Peach Thumbprint Cookies:
- Beat the butter with an electric mixer in a large bowl at medium speed until fluffy, then add vanilla.
- Mix flour and powdered sugar into butter mixture until soft dough forms.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls, make a thumbprint in each of the balls of dough, and place on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Fill center of each cookie with peach pie filling.
- Bake cookies until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
- Melt white chocolate in a small bowl and drizzle over the top of each cookie.
- Let set before serving.
Pro Tip: Chill the dough slightly before forming a dough ball for easier handling.
How to Prepare Peach Pie Filling for Cookies:
To prepare your peach pie filling for these jam thumbprint cookies, you want to cut the peaches into small pieces.
Open your peach preserve mixture and use your knife to cut the larger pieces.
That way multiple pieces fit in the thumbprint indentations.
This ensures an even distribution of filling and makes each bite perfectly balanced.
How Do You Get a Perfectly Round Print for Thumbprint Cookies?
To get a perfectly round print for peach pie cookies, use a rounded measuring spoon to make the indentations in the center of each ball, I like to use a 1 teaspoon size.
This ensures a consistent and perfectly round shape every time.
How to Store Peach Thumbprint Cookies:
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
That keeps the peach pie thumbprint cookies at the perfect texture!
Pro Tip: While you can store these cookies in the refrigerator if you prefer a cooler cookie, they do not need to be stored in the fridge.
How Long Do Peach Thumbprint Cookies Last?
These peach thumbprint cookies last about 5-7 days when stored properly in an airtight container at room temperature.
Unless you are serving them at a party, then they may only last about an hour before they disappear.
Do Peach Thumbprint Cookies Need to Be Refrigerated?
No, peach thumbprint cookies don’t need to be refrigerated.
Storing them at room temperature is sufficient, but you can refrigerate them if you prefer a firmer texture and cooler taste to your cookie.
Can You Freeze Peach Thumbprint Cookies?
Yes, you can freeze Peach Thumbprint Cookies.
Freeze them in a single layer on a sheet pan before transferring them to an airtight container.
Thaw at room temperature before serving.
After a long day, it is so nice to come home, pull these out during dinner, and have a perfect dessert that day without any effort or clean up!
Can you make thumbprint cookies with different flavors?
Yes you can make thumbprint cookies with different flavors! This recipe uses pie filling, so choose your favorite pre-made pie filling, and you can make your own variation.
I’ve made these Cherry Pie Cookies and these Blueberry Pie Cookies which are both great too.
You can also use jam or fruit spreads. Raspberry jam and strawberry jam are some of our favorites!
The best thumbprint cookies are ones made with your favorite filling flavors.
What to Serve with Peach Thumbprint Cookies:
Serve these peach thumbprint cookies alongside other cookies like Coffee Toffee Cookies, Macadamia Butter Cookies, Hazelnut Butter Cookies and Christmas Cookie Mix.
They also pair well with desserts like these Mixed Berry Cheesecake Bars, Lemon Blueberry Bars, Banana Cake with Pecans, Cranberry Fudge and Mocha Truffles.
